TRIPS
IN GAMBIA
Alla la Daaroo is happy to arrange trips to places of interest including
Brikama, Banjul, local markets, the River Gambia, fishing villages and secluded
beaches along the coast. Guides are available to accompany you via private taxi
or local bush taxis.

The
famous beach of Sanyang, only a thirty minute drive away, is popular with its
fishing bay, beach bars and tranquil places to relax. An excellent area for
swimming.
Alla la Daaro also has access to 2 adjoining beach camps at Gunjur. One is lived
in by Mr B (Baldi), a legendary character from the Fulla tribe, who has lived a
simple beachcomber’s life on the beach for the past 14 years. Mr B always offers
a warm welcome and particularly to those who like to learn/make music (see
Music). Mr B is also happy to talk about the history of his tribe (Fulla). The
other, Bolongba, is situated close by to the Bolong, a wetland Nature Reserve
host to wonderful water birds much loved by Birdwatchers, and to a beautiful
curved beach with the fishing village, with its brightly painted wooden crafted
boats, at the centre. A historic mosque sits at far end and is well worth a
visit. One can easily spend hours sifting through a treasure trove of shells
scattered/thrown out by the sea daily.

A
fresh or smoked fish lunch cooked in camp on a wood fire is a must. Tents and a
grass sleeping hut are available for overnight stays. Basic amenities.
Sunsets and swimming can be glorious. Surfing is a serious but as yet unexplored
opportunity.

Kartong fishing village, which lies on the coastal border, is the next
village along from Gunjur and is well known for its arts and crafts and beach
camps and boasts an annual music festival.

Tujering Art Village
Tujering Art Village created by Gambian artist Etu, a friend of Alla la
Daaro and the village sponsors, is well worth a visit. Situated just off
the main coastal road between the villages of Tanji and Sanyang it offers
a wide range of arts and crafts, lunches, overnights and is within easy
walking distance to the sea. |
