MUSIC OF THE GAMBIA

Brikama is well known for its ‘griots’, traditional musicians, primarily from the Conteh, Jobarteh and Kouyate families. many of whom have acquired an international reputation including kora artists Dembo Conteh, Tata Dindin and Pa Bobo Jobarteh, with Jally Bakary Conteh, son of Dembo, alongside family members and Sankung Jobarteh (guitar) worth watching out for.

Alla la Daaro enjoys good relationships with the griot families and can arrange private performances, sessions and classes with kora and balafon players, drummers and percussionists.

Drumming lessons and music sessions by the beach at Gunjur with the legendary Mr B (Baldi) from the Fulla tribe (previously kings) are a firm favourite.

Orders can be taken for balfons, koras and jembes. Instrument bags are also available.
